TVNZ is New Zealand’s biggest free-to-air broadcaster and is also the nation’s television public service broadcaster. Established in 1960 the company operates 4 channels and has a website which includes an on-line catch up service.  TVNZ intend to launch new services on existing and new platforms. In order to do this the company is undertaking a major technology transformation, moving to a file based system.

This is a major multi-million dollar investment and will involve significant change.

As a result a requirement was created for an experienced Broadcast Technology Manager to lead the TVNZ team through this transition and beyond.  Working with all key business stakeholders and the project team, the appointed person would play an important part in this exciting phase of the company’s development.

For such a key role TVNZ created an exacting specification and the challenge was to find someone who had the experience and personal qualities called for and who was also keen to relocate to New Zealand.

It was agreed that a mixed methodology would be used to find the shortlist of candidates.  The thrust of the assignment was centred on a careful search of the industry.  But in order to speed up the process and provide a wide coverage an advert was placed in the Sunday Times highlighting the quality of the job, the company and the lifestyle in New Zealand.  This was supported by some inexpensive on-line advertising.

The exercise took 6 weeks from assignment go-ahead to preparation of shortlist and a decision and offer was made within 8 weeks of commencement.
